Marty Jemison started racing in Utah back in 1987. He quickly rose through the ranks and was a Category 1 racer by 1989. In the same year took 2nd place to Olympic Champion Alexi Grewal in a mountain top finish of the Washington Trust Classic. In 1990 Marty packed up and moved to France to immerse himself into the culture of bike racing in Europe. Racing on French Amateur teams for the next 3 years and ultimately winning 11 International races and placing in the top 10 in 52 times in 1992 alone. In 1993 he rode part time for the US National Team and won the GP Beauce riding for a team based out of Canada. He also won the 1993 US Amateur Road Racing Championships.
In 1994 Marty turned Professional for the Dutch based WordPerfect team (currently Rabobank). Notable results were a top 20 in the semi-classic Het Volk, rides in Paris- Nice, Pays-Basque and the Tour duPont where he helped his team mate Viatcheslav Ekimov win the race.
From 1995-2000 he rode for the US Postal Service Professional Cycling Team. Marty was one of the leading American support riders in which his work for others dominated his list of achievements. In 2000 Jemison received attention as the first U.S. Pro Champion of the new millennium. In that year he flew the stars and stripes in breakaways of the Tour of Flanders and Paris Roubaix. In 1999 he took 18th and 19th in Fleche Wallone and Liege-Bastogne-Liege respectfully. In 1998 he helped team mate Lance Armstrong win his first bike race post cancer in the Tour of Luxembourg while placing 10th himself. 1997 and 1998 he rode Tour de France where he finished both times. Marty focused on a European road career and raced in over 900 road races abroad. From time to time he slung his leg over a mountain bike and has won the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival on two occasions, both times beating the record previously set by Greg Lemond. He also raced the Professional mountain bike championships in Deer Valley, Utah where he placed in the top 30. Back home in Utah, he is proud to have won the LoToJa 3 times, a 203 mile endurance race open to all categories.
